Before the kick, the FOX cameras caught Texas Longhorns freshman Cameron Dicker on the sidelines, smiling and giving a little head nod. The moment in the Cotton Bowl, against the Oklahoma Sooners, with a national audience watching, wasn’t too big for him.

Nor was the moment too big for Gus Johnson, who was handling the play by play for the broadcast and primed for a signature Gusgasm:

“It’s all on the shoulders of a freshman, Cameron Dicker. From 40 yards away. For the University of Texas... Red River immortality... Earthquake! He hit it! Dicker the Kicker! 48-45, Texas!”
For Dicker’s teammates on the sideline, the moment was surely excruciating. It certainly was for senior defensive end Breckyn Hager, who was standing with former safety DeShon Elliott.

“So how do you want to approach this?” Hager asked Elliott.
“And he goes, ‘I don’t know, bro.’ I go, ‘Let’s look up,’ and he goes, ‘alright.’ And I’m like, ‘alright,’ so we’re looking up, because we’re not going to watch it. Then as we’re looking up, I’m like, God told me we’re gonna to win this game, so why would he miss it? And then I was like, ‘Oh wait, he went to Lake Travis and I’m from Westlake. And then all of a sudden he made it, and now I can finally say, ‘Lake Travis, you all are alright.’”
No small praise there, nor was the acknowledgement from one of the greatest kickers in Texas and NFL history, Justin Tucker:

Immortality, indeed.
