A new offer went out in the 2019 recruiting class from the Texas Longhorns on Thursday evening to Sacramento (Cali.) St. Thomas Moore cornerback Maurice Gaines Jr.:

Gaines is a 6’1.5, 185-pounder who committed to Arizona in late July. However, he’s continued to receive interest from other schools — Baylor, Georgia Tech, and Kansas State have all offered in the last month, according to his 247Sports profile.

The question is whether the offer is authentic, since Gaines isn’t followed on Twitter by any of the Texas coaches or support staff.

A consensus three-star prospect, Gaines is ranked as the No. 1,075 player nationally and the No. 113 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Texas currently holds four pledges from defensive backs in the 2019 recruiting class, but plans on adding another prospect to the fold, with Mansfield Legacy’s Jalen Catalon looming as a top target.
