The first step to a berth in the Big 12 title game is complete, the Texas Longhorns escaped Lubbock with a win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Now, the Longhorns must find a way to hold off the Iowa State Cyclones, a team that has made a name by playing spoiler for teams with high hopes.
The Cyclones may be without star running back David Montgomery to start the game, following an ejection for fighting in the second half of their win over the Baylor Bears. That may be a breath of relief for the Texas defense as they have struggled keeping opponents out of the end zone as of late.
Offensively, the Longhorns continue to hum, led by the new conference record holder for most attempts without an interception, Sam Ehlinger. He was without one of his top two targets against Texas Tech, but still put up a career night with four touchdowns.
Texas head coach Tom Herman previewed the matchup in his weekly media address.
