As the Texas Longhorns get ready to face off against the Oklahoma Sooners next Saturday in Arlington with a league championship on the line, head coach Tom Herman is reportedly turning to an old friend and his most recent opponent to help with preparation:
Former Kansas football coach David Beaty will visit Austin this week & help Texas prepare to face Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game, according to a source. Goal is to learn Texas’ offensive and defensive tendencies, signals that tip off opposing teams, & any other insight pic.twitter.com/n7ZzYuWrZf

On Friday, David Beaty coached his final game as the head coach at Kansas and will now begin to pursue other opportunities after he lends an assist to Herman.
The two have a relationship after spending the 2008 season coaching together at Rice under David Bailiff — Herman was the offensive coordinator and Beaty was his wide receivers coach.
Last Monday, Herman called Beaty a “good friend” and a “hell of a football coach” before pulling out a 24-17 victory in Lawrence.
Given that Beaty could help Herman in a key area — recruiting in the Metroxplex, where Beaty has deep ties as a former high school coach — Beaty’s time in Austin could increase speculation that Herman may try to find a spot on his staff for his old colleague.
