How to watch top-ranked Texas RB target Trey Sanders commit on Wednesday

Can the Longhorns do enough to land the elite IMG Academy star with just weeks remaining before a commitment?

A decision date is within sight for top-ranked Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy running back Trey Sanders.

On Thursday, the five-star prospect took to Twitter to announce that he’ll be bringing his recruitment to a close on Dec. 19 on ESPNU at 12:20 p.m. Central.

Texas remains one of the few teams still firmly in the mix, along with Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, where Sanders was once committed. The Gators and Bulldogs hosted Sanders for official visits over the last two weekends.

Given the appeal of playing closer to home, Sanders is largely expected to ultimately recommit to the Crimson Tide, with Alabama owning 79 percent of his Crystal Ball projections, but Texas does have some semblance of a puncher’s chance in this recruitment.

After visiting the Forty Acres on early June and leaving tremendously impressed, Sanders returned in an official capacity on Sept. 15 for the Longhorns 37-14 win over USC. Unsurprisingly, Texas did amount some momentum of its own, but it’s unclear if Sanders’ parents are quite as comfortable with the Horns as he is, which will be a factor when he announces his commitment.

It’s also worth noting that Sander’s decision date is now the same as teammate and fellow Texas running back target, Noah Cain. The two have discussed potentially playing together, though that now seems much less likely than it did entering the season. The team in common, however, is the Longhorns, which are considered the frontrunners for Cain.

As is, the Longhorns hold a pledge from four-star Buford (Ga.) running back Derrian Brown. Can Texas add another elite running back or two to that mix on Dec. 19?
