On Wednesday, Texas Longhorns senior cornerback Kris Boyd revealed that he’s officially accepted an invitation to play in the 2019 Senior Bowl.
The invitation to the nation’s premier senior showcase is a big deal — it’s a chance to impress scouts and, for Boyd, to display a higher level of consistency then he did at times throughout his Longhorns career.
So the 6’0, 195-pounder will have the opportunity to improve his draft position. Boyd is currently ranked as the No. 6 cornerback by CBSSports.com and No. 52 player overall. However, WalterFootball.com has Boyd ranked No. 23 at his position, presumably as a result of some negative feedback received about Boyd:
Sources say that Boyd has not impressed them during tape study and watching him in practice. He really struggled in practice going against Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Boyd also had problems against Oklahoma, among other opponents, in 2018.
Heading into the Sugar Bowl, Boyd is a first-team All-Big 12 member who has 63 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble, and 16 pass breakups.
Defensive end Charles Omenihu has also accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl.
