Texas OT target Isaiah Hookfin sets new decision time... ‘for real’

The Sugar Land Dulles product seemed set to pick the Bears on Wednesday, but will now sign on Friday morning.

The whirlwind recruitment of one of the fastest-rising prospects in the state over the last two months was supposed to come to an end on Wednesday afternoon, when Sugar Land Dulles offensive tackle Isaiah Hookfin was set sign with his school of choice:

The 6’5, 270-pounder is expected to choose between the Texas Longhorns and the Baylor Bears.

But wait. Will Hookfin really decide on Wednesday afternoon? Perhaps not.

And, in fact, Hookfin decided to push back his decision:

On Thursday, Hookfin set his decision time for early Friday morning:

Hookfin saw his stock take off at the end of October, as he quickly earned offers from Texas and Baylor, as well as a host of other programs, in the stretch of a few days. Multiple visits to Austin followed, including an official visit last weekend. The Baylor staff also hosted Hookfin in Waco.

“Texas stands very high on my list,” Hookfin told Burnt Orange Nation in late November.

At the time, the Horns were considered the heavy favorite. However, something changed in recent days, with the Bears surging into the position. Hookfin’s official visit didn’t swing momentum back in favor of Texas, either.

Given that there was so much confidence on the Baylor side that Hookfin would side with head coach Matt Rhule and his program on Wednesday, Hookfin’s decision to push back his decision seemed positive at the time.

In the intervening hours, momentum has swung back in favor of the Longhorns — head coach Tom Herman and his staff appear set to land the high-upside prospect now.
