Following an Early Signing Day for the Teas Longhorns that was both heartening — 21 of 22 commits signed — and disappointing — Texas missed on two key running back targets — head coach Tom Herman will share his thoughts on the #fUTure19 class as it currently stands on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Central.
The press conference will air on Longhorn Network and TexasSports.com.
Herman will discuss the 21 signees, which include nine early enrollees. The class currently ranks No. 9 nationally and No. 2 in the Big 12, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Fans can catch up on the class with the BON storystream or through the Texas release.
Tom Herman says that there are five or six scholarships remaining in the #fUTure19 class, "if the right guys are available."

RB Derrian Brown's family sent gift baskets to Tom Herman and the Texas staff after he committed because they were so thankful for the opportunity to play for the Longhorns.

Herman on De’Gabriel Floyd: “He’s everything you want in a linebacker. He’s ready made as a high school kid. He can run, hit, and was a punt returner for his team as well.” #HookEm

Herman on Caleb Johnson: “Caleb is very similar to Gary Johnson in my opinion. A guy that is going to come in and compete in January for playing time.” #HookEm

Herman on Tyler Johnson: “Great culture fit. Great family. Super nice kid off the field, but a tremendous amount of nastiness when you turn the film on. He’s a lot bigger than maybe some of the other offensive linemen that we’ve signed in the past in terms of coming out of HS”

Tom Herman tells a story of QB Roschon Johnson being a perfectionist. Said his HS coach found him at the football field on the morning after a game throwing an out pattern that he missed the previous night. Did it 100 times by himself. Johnson's team won that game, BTW. #HookEm

Tom Herman credits Oscar Giles for identifying JUCO DE Jacoby Jones early. Got him on campus during the summer and then continued to recruit him when he was committed to Oklahoma. The effort paid off.

The Texas staff wanted Peter Mpagi to come and compete at camps. So he came to three, Tom Herman thinks, and eventually earned the offer to play at his dream school. #fUTure19

Herman said Gatorade National Player of the Year Jake Smith "can do everything."

"I'm sure he could drive the bus to the away games if you needed him to."
"The sky is the limit" for T'Vondre Sweat, the first defensive pledge in the #fUTure19 class. Even though he's 285 pounds, he's a basketball player who can play on the edge for the #Longhorns.

Tom Herman says Myron Warren, “Is a great athlete... He excels at basketball... He had 14 sacks his senior year.” Says they consider Louisiana as in-state recruiting. #HookEm
— Will Baizer (@WillBaizer) December 19, 2018
Herman on Marcus Washington: “Again, in the mold of big WR. I think we do a pretty good job of utilizing big WR in our offense. Marcus is one who has great length and great body control for a guy his size as well.” #HookEm
— Joe Cook (@josephcook89) December 19, 2018
Herman on Tyler Owens: “His senior year really caught up to those measurables. You can tell the light switch went on and he had a phenomenal senior year.” #HookEm

Surprising note here, as Tom Herman thinks one or two more prospects could sign with Texas before the early signing period ends.
— Wescott Eberts (@SBN_Wescott) December 19, 2018
The two biggest remaining needs for #fUTure19 are RB and OL, Tom Herman acknowledges. There are players currently on the radar at both of those positions, but Herman made it clear that Texas isn't going to settle just to fill spots.

Herman on Bryan Carrington: His impact was phenomenal. He did a great job. What Bryan does maybe the best is he helps our coaches during the season...Bryan keeps the commits together, keeps them engaged
