The Longhorns now have more depth at an important position.

On Thursday, Magnolia long snapper Justin Mader announced that he will join the Texas Longhorns football program:

The 6’0, 215-pounder will be a preferred walk-on for head coach Tom Herman and special teams coach Craig Naivar. A 2018 Under Armour All-American, Mader visited Austin shortly before National Signing Day.

Mader chose the Longhorns over opportunities to play at Air Force, Army, and Southern Arkansas.

With Jak Holbrook graduating after the 2018 season, the Longhorns will need a new long snapper to handle punts (and perhaps on field goals, if Holbrook regains that job this fall). Mader will compete for that role with Michael David Poujoul and fellow 2018 preferred walk-on Grayson Yeager, who committed last fall.

Mader is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 long snapper, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
