As expected, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have beat out the Texas Longhorns for the services of a top wideout when four-star wide receiver Lawrence Keys III announced on National Signing Day that he will attend Notre Dame.
Keys picked Notre Dame over Texas, LSU, and 31 other Division I offers.
The 5’11, 160 pounder is ranked as the No. 283 prospect overall and the No. 6 receiver in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Longhorns entered the recruitment for the New Orleans product late. Keys took an unofficial visit to Texas on March 2, but head coach Tom Herman didn’t offer Keys until December 20. Keys took an official visit to the 40 Acres on January 26. Ultimately, having more time to build a relationship with the speedy wide receivers benefitted the Fighting Irish.
At the time, the ‘Horns were looking for a third receiver to join four-star signees Brennan Eagles and Al’vonte Woodard. However, on February 4, Texas landed No. 19 overall receiver Joshua Moore, which took significant pressure off of landing Keys.
