Ball Security Is An Issue

Daily Round Up: March 29, 2018

NCAA Football: Texas at Baylor Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Running back Toneil Carter had a problems with ball security last season and Herman continues to see too many fumbles from the Longhorns’ backfield during practice this week.

Herman said that outside linebacker Cameron Townsend has been moved to running back in practice — part of what he described as “open tryouts at that position.”

The Texas baseball team had a mid-season revival and a lot of that is due to the pitching staff.

From the series against LSU to the one with Arkansas, Texas surrendered just shy of 5.8 runs per game. Since the loss to the Razorbacks on March 14, the Longhorns have trimmed that number to 2.9.

Year two should be a big improvement.

Texas should be much-improved in its second year under Tom Herman, especially if the Longhorns can find a consistent quarterback between Sam Ehlinger and Shane Buechele (or with a freshman).

Texas senior golfer Doug Ghim earned his way into the Masters tournament.

Coach Herman would like to see a record crowd at the Orange-White game on April 21st.

Texas is still the king of sports revenue.

UT-Austin reclaimed its place as the state’s top revenue generator in 2016-17, a spot held by A&M for the previous two years. Although its football and men’s basketball teams had relatively disappointing seasons, a revenue jump of almost $27 million might have eased the pain. But expenses also went up $35 million, thanks in part to increased severance payments, facility debt and lease payments.

Texas is producing NFL talent again but can it translate into a winning program?
