Execution is on Tom Herman’s laundry list. After Saturday’s scrimmage, the coaching staff felt that both the offensive and defensive units were having success. “Both sides of the ball are having some success,” Herman said. “As long as it’s balanced, I think we’re headed in the right direction. It certainly appears that way now.”

Ignore those recruiting rankings. Rivals analyst Mike Farrell believes Tom Herman is on the way to another impressive recruiting class. “Texas only has three commitments since National Signing Day but two of them are as big as any in the country so far and that makes the Longhorns the most impressive.”

Here’s an early look at the 2018 schedule. The Dallas Morning News looks ahead at the biggest non-conference game, a game Texas should win but might not, and a game the Horns shouldn’t win but just might. The Austin American-Statesman has five must-win games.

Is it just difficult to win at football at Texas? Everyone is quick to blame Texas coaches for the program’s decline, but maybe we should take a good hard to look at the culture and the athletic department itself. Coming to a city near you. Texas goes on tour with UT coaches, AD Chris Del Conte and other special guests promoting Texas athletics. Come early, stay late, and get fired up for the 2018 season.

Planning to attend the Orange-White game? The annual game will be played under the lights in DKR on Saturday, April 21, at 6:30pm. This will be a burnt orange athletic fête starting at noon. Check Texas Sports for the full schedule.

Last Saturday, Lifetime Longhorns Vince Young, Jill Sterkel, a gold medalist swimmer, Nell Fortner, the gold medalist women’s basketball coach at the 2000 Olympics, and Cathy Self Morgan, former state title winner women’s basketball coach, were inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Congrats to Mack Brown. Brown was named the Football Bowl Association’s Champions Award winner. The Champions Award is awarded to a coach or administrator who ‘over a long career furthers the cause of the college football bowl industry.’

Texas baseball remembers Augie Garrido. Former players and friends turned out Monday to celebrate Garrido’s life at the Erwin Center.
