The stakes in a critical stretch in recruiting for the Texas Longhorns are high, as Loganville (Ga.) Grayson safety Kenyatta Watson II is ready to announce his decision on May 1 at 5:51 p.m. Central in an appearance on Atlanta’s Fox 5 News, which has a live news stream.
Three teammates will join him — defensive end Kevin Harris, linebacker Owen Pappoe, and offensive tackle Wanya Morris. Pappoe, a consensus five-star prospect and the nation’s top outside linebacker, is a Texas target who just accompanied Watson on his official visit to Texas this weekend, but isn’t considered likely to pick the Horns.
The key target here is Watson. Along with Mansfield Legacy product Jalen Catalon, Watson is the safety that Texas needs to land in this cycle after missing out on highly-rated in-state prospects like Brian Williams and Demani Richardson, both A&M commits.
The two strong contenders for Watson are Texas and Notre Dame, which he visited last weekend, along with Longhorns target NaNa Osafo-Mensah. Right now, the Horns hold every pick in Watson’s 247Sports Crystal Ball.
The hope is that Texas closed with Watson over the last several days that he spent in Austin:
Longhorns fans won’t have to wait long to find out if that’s the case.
A consensus four-star prospect, Watson is ranked as the No. 163 player nationally, the No. 9 safety, and the No. 20 player in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
