The Texas Longhorns remain in the mix for a recruiting target of emerging importance, as Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive tackle Chris Akporoghene named the Horns one of his top five schools on Monday:

Duke, Nebraska, Oregon, and Tennessee are the other finalists from among the more than 30 offers held by Akporoghene.
Texas vaulted into serious contention courtesy of an unofficial visit from the 6’4, 290-pounder over the weekend for the Heat Wave recruiting event:

Originally from the Knoxville area, Akporoghene picked up his offer from the Volunteers after attending a recent camp and also took a recent visit to Duke. Mississippi State hosted Akporoghene for his only official visit so far in early June, but didn’t make the cut. An unofficial visit to Eugene in April apparently made a more positive impression on him, as the Ducks hold the only 247Sports Crystal Ball cast so far.
A consensus three-star prospect, Akporoghene is ranked as the No. 769 player nationally, the No. 73 offensive tackle, and the No. 104 player in Florida.
