The second edition of Longhorn City Limits will feature a headlining performance from Texas Country icons Reckless Kelly on the LBJ lawn before the Texas Longhorns take on the USC Trojans on Saturday in a nationally-televised matchup at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Originally from Idaho, co-founders Willy and Cody Braun have called Austin home since 1996, with the latest Reckless Kelly album, Sunset Motel, peaking at No. 12 on the country charts after its 2016 release.
Reckless Kelly will play from 5-6:15 p.m., leaving fans 45 minutes to make into the stadium.
“I’m thrilled with the response we have received from Longhorn City Limits since announcing the concert series for all home Texas Football games,” said athletics director Chris Del Conte. “Featuring acts with deep Austin connections like Reckless Kelly and The Peterson Brothers makes it even more exciting.”
The Peterson Brothers are an Austin-based funk and blues duo — by Glenn Jr. (guitar and vocals) and his brother Alex (bass and vocals), who have a popular weekly residency at the Continental Club, one of Austin’s most iconic music venues.
They’ve opened for a range of musicians, from budding Austin superstar Gary Clark Jr. to blues legend BB King to Willie Nelson himself.
The Peterson Brothers will open Longhorn City Limits on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with an hour-long set.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Concession options will be available, including Stubb’s BBQ and other game-by-game choices, along with happy hour pricing for beer and wine spritzers.
