For a second straight week, the Texas Longhorns aren’t part of the SB Nation FanPulse Top 25 following a bye week, but the LSU Tigers have maintained the No. 1 spot ahead of a big-time matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend.
In the Big 12, Oklahoma sits at No. 7, Baylor is at No. 10, and this weekend’s opponent, Kansas State, is just inside the Top 25 at No. 24. Interestingly enough, Louisiana Tech is now at No. 25 thanks to running the table in the last seven games after getting blown out by Texas in the season opener.
The poll from BON voters looked similar, with the notable exceptions of Kansas State and Louisiana Tech each slotting one spot higher than the national poll and Ohio State sitting at No. 2 ahead of Alabama.
With a handful of important contributors expected back from injuries this week for the Horns, fan confidence has gone up for the first time since Week 4, moving from 11.9 percent to 29.4 percent.
Since the basketball season tipped off on Tuesday night for the Longhorns, there’s also a fan confidence poll for head coach Shaka Smart’s program — 31 percent of fans are confident in the direction of the program, a surprisingly high number given the general tone surrounding discussions of Texas basketball.
Meanwhile, football fans across the network are most excited for what may be the biggest game of the year — LSU at Alabama.
