Recently demoted Texas Longhorns offensive coordinator Tim Beck is among those under consideration for the Lamar Cardinals’ head coaching job, the site Football Scoops reports.
Beck has served as Texas’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since 2017 – the dawn of Tom Herman’s head coaching era at Texas. Prior to that, Beck coached alongside Herman for two seasons at Ohio State. He’s also had stints as an assistant with the Kansas Jayhawks and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, as well as at Mansfield Summit High School in Texas, where he served as head coach before making the jump to the collegiate level.
Following a lackluster performance by the Longhorns’ offense in 2019, Beck was demoted from offensive coordinator after the regular season finale against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
In November, Lamar opted to fire head coach Mike Schultz, the program’s head coach since 2017.
According to Football Scoops, Scotty Walden, the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles’ co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, is also among the candidates that could take over for the Cardinals.
