With the dead period looming just days away that heralds next Wednesday’s Early Signing Day, the coming hours will feature the final opportunity for the Texas Longhorns to host recruits for the next month.
And while it will be an unusually quiet recruiting weekend for this time of year, the Horns will host an important target this weekend — Longview defensive tackle Sawyer Goram-Welch, according to Jason Suchomel of Orangebloods.
The 6’4, 278-pounder plans on announcing his commitment in the coming days and signing his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday before enrolling in January. Pledged to Oklahoma State from the middle of October until last Saturday, Goram-Welch decided to reopen his recruitment only days after receiving his offer from home-state Texas.
Considering that Goram-Welch has only taken one other official visit, to SMU in June, it’s not surprising that all four of his 247Sports Crystal Ball projections now favor Texas.
So there’s a strong possibility that Goram-Welch may not even wait until Wednesday to make his announcement — it could come as early this weekend and will almost certainly favor the Longhorns. Any drama or big, shocking in turns in this recruitment are not currently expected.
A consensus three-star prospect, Goram-Welch is ranked as the No. 961 player nationally and the No. 79 defensive tackle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He recorded 30 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in his final two seasons with the Lobos.
