Texas reportedly hiring Chris Ash as next DC

Former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash will be the new defensive playcaller for the Longhorns.

Multiple reports are out that Texas will be hiring former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash as the next defensive coordinator for the Longhorns.

247Sports was first to report the news of Ash’s pending hire.

Ash is set to replace Todd Orlando as the defensive play caller and previously held the same title at Ohio State before taking the job at Rutgers.

Ash’s name has been linked to the Texas DC job since it was reported that Orlando would be relieved of his duties, but things had been quiet since he reportedly interviewed for the position.

It now remains to be seen how Ash will go about filling out the rest of his staff once the bowl game concludes. Safeties coach Craig Naivar has been tasked with calling the plays defensively for the bowl game against Utah, but with a new sheriff in town it will be interesting to see if Ash chooses to have some carryover from the previous staff.

This story will be updated.
