It was a big Saturday for the Texas Longhorns as baseball, softball and basketball were all in action, in addition the football team hosting a huge recruiting event for rising juniors.
The basketball team, after dropping a frustrating loss to the conference-leading Kansas State Wildcats, managed to bounce back with a convincing win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Which version of the Texas Longhorns should fans expect to see heading into the final five games of the regular season as they try to build their NCAA Tournament resume? (2:30) While the basketball team righted one of the wrongs of its season struggles, the baseball team managed to put together a convincing weekend series win over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns with wins on Friday night and Saturday night, before struggling to out-duel their opponent to close the series Sunday. Texas got some incredible performances from its young guns and gave fans plenty to look forward to as they start the 2019 season (11:46).
The Junior Day festivities for Tom Herman and company netted two big-time commitments for the 2020 recruiting cycle, four-star athlete Mookie Cooper and four-star offensive tackle Jaylen Garth. The pledges from two highly-coveted players continues the momentum from the 2019 group, specifically along the trenches, as Texas now has three huge OL commitments - all from the state of Texas (18:30). Herman also reportedly added yet another sharp mind to his staff, former North Carolina Tarheels head coach Larry Fedora. What does the native Texan bring to Herman’s staff as he waits for his next opportunity to take a full-time coaching role? (28:18)
Finally, Kyle and Gerald close the show out by honoring one of the best traditions in all of college sports, Big Bertha, as they Bang the Drum (35:06). Kyle takes a look at Longhorn Legend Kevin Durant’s performance in the NBA All-Star game, while Gerald laughs with one of his favorite head coaching legends.
