There’s reportedly another new member of the Texas Longhorns support staff, as head coach Tom Herman has hired former Houston Cougars defensive backs coach Paul Williams as a football analyst, according to Horns247.
The 48-year-old Williams will work with the defensive staff after spending the 2018 season under Major Applewhite. Past stops for the Delaware product include Illinois, Miami, Temple, and Western Michigan. He’s sent double-digit defensive backs to the NFL, including a draft pick at Delaware and a second-round selection at Temple.
In addition to experience coaching defensive backs, Williams has also coached wide receivers, defensive line, and special teams.
A former track standout at Delaware, Williams had 10 interceptions and 27 pass breakups as a four-year letterman for the Fightin’ Blue Hens.
Williams is the latest football analyst to join Herman’s staff in Austin, along with former North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora. Former Kansas head coach David Beaty is also under consideration.
