Just off the heels of a 3-1 series victory over the Purdue Boilermakers, No. 22 Texas Longhorns baseball is back in action on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field with a midweek matchup against the Sam Houston State Bearkats.
We’re really in the swing of things (no pun intended) in this baseball season now, as the Longhorns begin a stretch of their schedule that includes five games over the next six days.
Texas will turn to Italian-born pitcher Matteo Bocchi for the start. Bocchi has appeared in just one game this year, and that was in a reliever’s role against Louisiana. Last season, Bocchi threw 38.1 innings, with a 3.05 ERA, 34 strikeouts and 21 walks. He had a record of 4-1 and saved one game.
The Bearkats will be making their first appearance in a midweek game this season. SHSU comes into tonight’s game sporting a 5-1 record after sweeping Louisiana this past weekend and will turn to senior left-handed pitcher Seth Balew, who recorded 81 innings pitched in 2018, with a flat ERA of 3.00 and 57 strikeouts to go with 29 walks.
Texas leads the all time series against Sam Houston State 77-19.
First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Central. You can catch this game live at the Disch, but if you can’t make it out to the field, the Longhorn Network will televise the game and 104.9 The Horn will broadcast it over the airwaves.
Back in action tonight!
