Over the next decade, the Texas Longhorns will play marquee non-conference opponents like the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, and Georgia Bulldogs.
Consistent with the desire to schedule one such opponent every season, athletics director Chris Del Conte is currently negotiating with the Florida Gators to add a home-and-home series to the schedule in 2030 and 2031, according to a report from Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman.
Del Conte refused to confirm the report, unsurprisingly, but that timeline does fit the current non-conference schedule, as the home-and-home series with Georgia, the final series currently scheduled, will end in 2029 with a game in Athens.
Playing Florida in Gainesville would provide a valuable recruiting opportunity for Texas in the Sunshine State, as well as renew a series that currently features only three games between the two programs. The series began in 1924 and concluded in 1940 with the Horns possessing two victories and a tie.
