On Tuesday, Texas Longhorns head coach David Pierce sent out his trademark #40AcresFamily tweet to announce the commitment of Midland College right-handed pitcher Dawson Merryman:

Midland College RHP Dawson Merryman is latest #HookEm commit. A low slot RHP that attacks from a tough angle, he's currently pitching out of bullpen (0.00 ERA) for @ChathamAnglers. He was a starter for MC last season, but probably profiles best as backend reliever. Impact arm.

Merryman was a freshman last season for the Chaps and earned recognition as the conference’s Most Valuable pitcher. A 6’1, 230-pounder, Merryman started 14 games for Midland College last season, finishing with an 8-6 record and 3.02 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 80.1 innings. In eight games, he was able to go the distance and only allowed 68 hits and 27 earned runs.
With the Longhorns struggling to finish games late in the 2019 season, Merryman could be a key piece at the back end of the bullpen as Pierce and his staff search for the reliable stopper the program didn’t have in Pierce’s worst season as a head coach.
