Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger received high praise from someone who knows exactly the position he’s in.
Lifetime Longhorn legend Vince Young shared his thoughts about Ehlinger with KTRK in Houston — telling reporter Joe Gleason that he sees a little bit of himself in the young Texas quarterback.
“That guy, he has that ‘it’ factor. You see him wiggling, dancing. That’s something you can’t coach. And the guys dance around him. I had that. And I can see that in him.
Young was also complimentary of Texas coach Tom Herman.
Tom’s doing a really good job of letting the guys build chemistry; having fun going swimming do those little extracurricular activities after practice... And all that type of stuff brings chemistry to your team. Now I know who the guy is next to me and I know he’s going to give me 100 percent. All those things help. And it makes the team want to play harder for Tom.
The former quarterback sees areas that need improvement on defense, but believes the offensive line will be improved over last season.
We got some stuff to do. We got some defensive linemen and linebackers we need to work on. I think our offensive line is going to be a little bit better than what they were last year. We just have to keep working and take it one game at a time. Don’t get too greedy. Don’t let the media get involved...Leave that stuff alone. It’s nothing but distractions. Only thing you need to focus on is everything in your locker room, your coaching staff and your fans. But right now, I think we are headed in the right direction.
