The Texas Longhorns are 1-0 for the first time under Tom Herman

The Texas Longhorns did what they were supposed to do against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, coming away with a convincing 45-14 win to start the 2019 season.

An unofficial measure of a good season opener is whether the backups see the field and for the first time under Tom Herman, the backup quarterback took cleanup snaps. Casey Thompson replaced Sam Ehlinger on the first series of the fourth quarter, after Ehlinger threw for 276 yards and four touchdowns.

The much-questioned Longhorn defense played well, holding a shutout until the fourth quarter. Two late-game touchdowns made the margin smaller than it actually was, as Texas held them scoreless through three full quarters.

With the win, the Longhorns set up a huge Week 2 matchup against the LSU Tigers, with ESPN’s College Gameday on-site.
