One of the big goals for the Texas Longhorns heading into the game with the Rice Owls was to come away injury-free and that may not be the case.

After getting rolled onto in the second quarter, starting center Zach Shackelford was slow to get up and left the field walking with the assistance of coaches and trainers. A short time later he was carted off the sideline with his right sock and shoe removed, an apparent right foot injury.

Shackelford has struggled with ankle injuries in the past, missed time in fall camp and has missed time due to ankle injuries in every season at Texas.

Derek Kerstetter will move inside to take over the duties at center, while Denzel Okafor takes over at tackle.

Shackelford has since been ruled out for the remainder of the Rice game.
