The first win over the Cowboys in Austin since 2008 afforded the Longhorns the opportunity to move up, as did several losses by higher-ranked teams. In fact, three teams previously slotted above Texas lost this week — No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 10 Michigan, and No. 11 Utah. Previously ranked No. 14, the Badgers jumped the Horns with the victory over the Wolverines.
Despite the loss to Georgia, Notre Dame remained in front of Texas, even though the win over the Cowboys is better than the best win for the Fighting Irish, a Week 1 victory over a Louisville team that just lost to Florida State.
Texas now heads into the season’s first bye week before traveling to Morgantown to face West Virginia on Oct. 5, the first true road game of the 2019 campaign. The Mountaineers are currently at 3-1 in Neal Brown’s first season with recent victories over NC State and Kansas.
