What I Saw in the Alamo Bowl that has me Excited for Next Year

Tom Herman could not have done a better job of steadying the ship at the end of the 2019 season. Disappointed as we all were at the end of BIG XII play, the man found a way to keep our hands off the panic button. On the brink of hysteria he:

- Had a dominant bowl win over a good opponent

- Lost most of his staff and still created a phenomenal gameplan for Utah

- Found exciting new hires for his staff

- Kept together the core of a good recruiting class (No. 10 with only 17 signees?!)

- In general, showed us he could still be the guy we’ve been looking for if he can find consistency

Not to shabby with blood in the water in the open sea. Furthermore, i saw some specific things from players that i really liked and give me hope for next year:

- Keontay Ingram was a beast. The Herman strategy of clock management works great if you can run the ball like the 49ers. Ingram was a guy last year that I think most of us had resigned ourselves to thinking was never gonna figure it out. He was great in that game and made me feel like our running game is really on the up-and-up.

- Joseph Ossai, of course. We’ve had some good D-Lineman over the years, but we’ve been missing a real field churning ballhawk. Putting that guy in position to showcase his athleticism helped him and every level of the defense.

- Secondary. I’ll refrain a little here bc Utah was not a great passing team and Ossai & co. had their QB scrambling, but our DBs played very well. Chris Adimora in particular showed great awareness and ball skills, something we hadn’t seen much of.

- Special Teams. Why was this a problem for us given our athletes. They showed up in SA.

Just a few thoughts given the lack of Longhorns news right now. Would love to hear other thoughts...
