In order for the Longhorns to achieve their goal of winning the Big 12, the road will go through a rare win against Gary Patterson. Texas has managed that on just two occasions since 2012, with Patterson’s defense vexing Texas more often than not, including several lopsided victories.
A year ago, Texas gifted TCU four possessions on which they capitalized and put the Longhorns at a disadvantage. A Patterson team will make you pay for each and every mistake you make on both sides of the ball.
Perhaps the most-troubling mistakes that Texas could pay for was the tackling — or lack thereof — from a week ago. Texas missed a number of tackles that even the coaches had trouble counting, leading to much of the defensive struggle against TCU.
“I never would have seen that coming, to be honest with you, from the work that we put in in training camp and the way we tackled in our four scrimmages — I think it was four or five scrimmage opportunities in training camp — and then the way we tackled in game one. I didn’t see that coming,” Ash said.

When he’s putting balls in spots like he did last Saturday, he gives TCU fans a ton of hope. He’s also such a good runner and so great at taking advantage of mismatches and extending plays — he is a guy you have to account for in the run and pass play.
- Freshman RB Bijan Robinson (back) — probable
- Sophomore WR Jake Smith (hamstring) — probable
