Following early three weeks away from the game field, the No. 17 Texas Longhorns had an ideal opportunity to capture their fourth consecutive win, owning the lead and the ball late in the fourth. But a quick three-and-out followed by an Iowa State touchdown saw the Longhorns lose that lead, 23-20, with only 1:32 to play. The Sam Ehlinger-led offense marched down the field, but a critical sack with only three seconds forced a 57-yard game-tying field goal attempt, and that was just a bit too much for Cameron Dicker, who couldn’t connect.
This marks Texas’ first loss since the Red River Showdown, and more importantly, the loss eliminates the Longhorns from the Big 12 championship picture at 5-3 (4-3).
