On Saturday, Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman praised the efforts of junior punter Ryan Bujcevski against the Oklahoma State Cowboys and West Virginia Mountaineers as the Australian native posted arguably the two best performances of his Longhorns career.
Late in the game, however, Bujcevski suffered a knee injury and on Monday, the school announced that Bujcevski suffered a torn ACL and will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery.
With Bujcevski out for the remainder of the 2020 season, junior kicker Cameron Dicker will take over punting duties. Because the final drive by Texas was able to run out the clock, Dicker didn’t have to attempt the first punt of his collegiate career.
At Lake Travis, Dicker served as the punter during his junior and senior seasons, showing significant improvement in 2018 as he finished his career with the Cavaliers — after averaging 34.5 yards per attempt as a junior, he averaged 38.9 yards per attempt as a senior, including a long of 61 yards and seven kicks downed inside the 20-yard line.
Texas does not have any other punters on the roster, but sophomore tight end Jared Wiley did attempt two punts as a sophomore at Temple, averaging 39 yards per attempt.
