On Wednesday evening, the Texas Longhorns men’s golf team captured their first tournament win of the spring season at The Prestige (La Quinta, CA) collegiate golf tournament. Led by senior Spencer Soosman, who finished third individually, the Longhorns were six strokes better than the next best team — No. 1 ranked Pepperdine.
Pepperdine ousted Texas at the Amer Ari Invitational (Waikoloa, HI) earlier this month to open spring competition.
As a team, UT shot 20 under-par for the tournament and scored five-under (-5) or better in each round. All five Longhorn golfers shot par or better this week.
After trailing by four strokes following Monday’s opening round of play, the team responded well and shot a tournament-best round (-9) on Tuesday. Texas entered Wednesday’s final round of play ahead in first place by five strokes.
Three of the Top-10 and six of the Top-25 men’s golf teams competed in this tournament.
