The Texas Longhorns are running out of opportunities to make their claim to the NCAA Tournament. We’re talking about head coach Shaka Smart’s men’s team, of course, who are coming off a mildly sadistic three-game stretch against some of the Big 12’s best squads.
So perhaps it goes without saying that this weekend’s game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders carries weight and, arguably, will define Smart’s legacy so far with the Longhorns.
Both the Longhorns and Red Raiders are 14-8, though Texas Tech maintains a one-game lead in conference play over Texas. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. Central on Saturday at home in the Frank Erwin Center. You can tune in on ESPN2 or via the streamable Watch ESPN app.

NEWS FROM ELSEWHERE IN LONGHORN LAND AND THE BIG 12
- Texas softball put on a clinic against the Maryland Terrapins at the Thursday night Texas Classic Softball Tournament. The final score: 17-0, with 11 of the runs coming in the bottom of the fourth as the Longhorns put away the Terrapins in just five innings. Much of this was thanks to pitcher Shea O’Leary, who pitched a one-hit shutout, walking one and striking out five. The Longhorns will take on the Lamar Cardinals today at 2 p.m. Central.
