After hosting several high-profile prospects over the weekend, the Texas Longhorns are currently rolling at the red carpet for the nation’s No. 1 running back, Garland Lakeview Centennial’s Camar Wheaton, on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

It’s an important visit for Texas, as the Longhorns are considered one of the top contenders for Wheaton, who made his way to Norman on Monday. Oklahoma currently holds a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction to land Wheaton — it’s the only one currently cast for the 5’11, 190-pounder. LSU and SMU are also heavily in the mix for Wheaton, who holds 27 total offers.

Wheaton burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2017 by averaging nearly 13 yards per carry and now has 3,128 rushing yards and 40 rushing touchdowns in his high school career. A consensus five-star prospect, Wheaton is ranked the No. 16 player nationally and the No. 2 player in Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Texas only took one running back in the 2020 recruiting class — consensus five-star prospect Bijan Robinson — so the Horns are pushing to land two prospects at the position in the current cycle and Wheaton is one of the top targets. Houston product LJ Johnson fits that description, too, while Virginia’s TreVeyon Henderson plans to take an official visit to Austin this spring. Hallettsville’s Jonathon Brooks also visited Texas recently after the Longhorns became the first school to offer him back in November.
