In addition to Texas, the other finalists for Williams are Arizona State, Kansas, Mississippi State, SMU, and Ole Miss. Williams is set to announce his commitment on May 11 — less than 11 days from now.
A wide receiver until midway through his junior season, Williams has seen his stock improve rapidly over the recent months since his film became available, as most of his 22 offers have come in the last few weeks despite the absence of spring football across the country.
The biggest offer, it seems, came from the Longhorns earlier this month — there are now four 247Sports Crystal Ball projections in favor of Texas landing a commitment from Williams in the coming days.
During his shortened season on defense, Williams made 32 tackles, with eight tackles for loss and five sacks. He’s considered a consensus three-star prospect ranked as the No. 848 player nationally and the No,. 62 outside linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The fast rise for Williams illustrates a modern truth about high school football in the state of Texas — coaches are willing to make long-term bets on sub 200-pound recruits with only limited experience at the position.
