In the age of the novel coronavirus, a media scrum is a dangerous place to be.

Recognizing the threat of holding an event that doesn’t lend itself to social distancing during an ongoing pandemic, the Big 12 Conference announced on Thursday that the 2020 Media Days, scheduled to take place this July at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, will happen online.

The Big 12 is now the first Power Five conference to cancel its annual summer event, which typically features breakout sessions with journalists crowded around each other in close physical proximity.
