The Texas Longhorns can now officially circle June 15 as one of the biggest recruiting days of the summer with the announcement from Kennedale safety JD Coffey on June 1 that he will join Dallas Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem in revealing his commitment on that day.

In early April, the 6’0.5, 180-pounder revealed his top six schools — Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington, along with Texas.
As with Ibraheem, the Longhorns are considered the favorite for Coffey, with all six 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Texas.
Also like Ibraheem, Coffey is one of the top targets at his position for the Horns after receiving an offer last summer. Following the hire of new defensive coordinator Chris Ash, who also coaches the safety position, Coffey visited Austin for the program’s elite recruiting event in January.
So Coffey’s decision will provide Ash an opportunity to land his first big commitment at Texas.
A consensus four-star prospect, Coffey is ranked as the No. 173 player nationally and the No. 7 safety, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
