Tom Herman, Texas governor’s office join forces to remind us of COVID-19 guidelines

Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman and Gov. Greg Abbott’s office are teaming up to remind Texans to protect themselves amid the “swift” and “dangerous” spread of COVID-19.

“As Texans, we understand the power of teamwork, whether it’s on or off the field,” Herman said in a PSA video. “And right now, we need a team effort to stop COVID-19. We all have a responsibility to protect our health and the health of our loved ones, so make sure you do your part to slow the spread of COVID-19: Wash your hands, practice social distancing, of course wear a mask and if you can, stay home. Together we will beat COVID-19.”

Over the weekend, Vice President Mike Pence met with Abbott, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and medical experts in Dallas, according to a Sunday report in the Dallas Morning News.

“The governor and I talked [last] week. We talked about importance of people – in this moment – of calling on people across Texas to wear a mask,” Pence said.

Abbott, a second-term Republican, added to Pence’s comments following the meeting.

“We need to understand that COVID-19 has taken a very swift and very dangerous turn in Texas over just the past few weeks,” Abbott said of the recent uptick in the state’s cases.

Texas reported more than 148,000 cases on Sunday, including nearly 2,400 deaths. From the Morning News: “Texas broke its 16-day streak with record hospitalizations [on Sunday], [falling] by 26 patients to 5,497. The 5,357 new confirmed cases was the lowest in six days.”
