The Longhorn staff has been heavily pursuing several defensive back targets on the West Coast and looks like their efforts could soon be rewarded.
Four star Pasadena (CA) John Muir cornerback Jamier Johnson announced back in April that he had narrowed his list of schools down to seven and the Longhorns were among the finalists.

Not long after that Johnson announced a decision date for July 3rd and Oregon was reportedly the front runner to earn his commitment come decision day. With Johnson unable to make a trip to Austin due to the extended dead period things were not trending in favor of the Longhorns.

Yesterday it was reported by 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong that it was a possibility that Oregon would not currently take Johnson’s commitment due to the fact that they already have three commitments at the position.
Wiltfong went on to say that if the Ducks were not an option for Johnson that Texas stood to be the beneficiary and he entered in a crystal ball prediction for the Longhorns with a confidence of eight.
As things currently stand, Johnson is still scheduled to go ahead with his commitment on Friday, but it has been reported that people around him thinks he should postpone the decision.
This is going to be an interesting story line to follow as we closer to Friday, Stay tuned.
