It looks like the Longhorns and Aggies will not be meeting on the hardwood again this season.

For the second time in four years, the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball program will participate in a neutral-site doubleheader at the Toyota Center in Houston. On Wednesday, Texas was among the announced participants for the Battleground 2k20 showcase.

The state’s top in-state rivals are set to square off against two mid-major programs on Friday, Dec. 18. Texas will face Louisiana Tech while Texas A&M plays Boise State.

Louisiana Tech is coming off a 22-8 season plus they return the core of their roster, which features four upperclassmen that started at least 10 games last season.

This also likely means that Texas and Texas A&M won’t be playing each other in a neutral-site game again this season. Last year, the Longhorns defeated the Aggies by double-digits at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

A&M recently reached a multi-year agreement to play TCU at Dickies Arena in 2020 and at the Toyota Center in 2021.

As part of a campaign called Athletes Against Abuse, in connection with the U-Sports Group, this event will strive to blur the lines between sport and service, inspiring athletes to use their talent, notoriety and influence to improve the lives of those around them.

“The Battleground 2k Series will provide college basketball programs with an alternative to traditional MTE’s and neutral-site events,” U-Sports Group President Rhossi Carron says. “Our platform was constructed to highlight relevant social issues, with the idea of using the power of sports to create change in our communities and in ourselves. Competing, not just for the sake of winning, but also for the cause of change, is at the heart of U-Sports Group and will be reflected in our sporting events.”
