This cycle has been a bit of a bit of a roller coaster when it comes tight end prospects for the Texas Longhorns, but it looks like are heading in a favorable direction in regards to three-star Colorado tight end Gunnar Helm.
Helm recently made a trip down to Austin on his own dime with his family to get a feel for Austin and the campus and since then the Longhorns have begun to trend in 247Sports’ Crystal Ball picks.

Due to the ongoing recruiting dead period because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Texas coaches weren’t able to meet with Helm and his family, but the visitors were able to get a feel for the city. And it seems like that was enough to make an impression.
Horns247 recruiting analyst Mike Roach entered a pick in favor of the Longhorns with a high confidence of seven and since then two more picks come in for Texas with high confidence that Helm will side with the Longhorns.
Schools like Iowa and Wisconsin remain firmly in the mix for Helm, but the Longhorns look to be in good position following his trip to the Lone Star State — no other program has any Crystal Ball picks to land him.
Hardest decision I will ever make(.)

Any time you have a kid willing to pay his own way to visit your campus from out of state that usually bodes well and I think that it is even more significant that Helm decided to make his way to Austin in the middle of the pandemic.
The staff already has one potential tight end prospect in Everman’s Juan Davis and they could be on the verge of filling the void left by Landen King’s decommitment.
A consensus three-star prospect, Helm is ranked as the No. 567 player nationally and the No. 26 tight end, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
