One of the Texas Longhorns basketball players with the most upside heading into 2020-2021 season is Kai Jones, who was recently profiled in a segment by Spectrum News.

The roughly three-minute clip highlights Jones and his family’s roots in the Bahamas, where his parents still live, and the trials and tribulations they faced after Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

“The island that my family lives on, the majority, wasn’t really hit by it,” Jones said in the interview. “But I had some friends in the outer islands who were kind of affected by – you know, losing homes.”

Jones said that moment inspired him, and helped feel proud of his Bahamian roots.

“It’s a beautiful thing when you can use where you’re from to be driven,” Jones told Spectrum News. “Being a Bahamian, that does instill a bit of pride in you because you’re like, I’m different.”
