Wednesday was a terrible day for college sports.
As reported by USA Today, in the span of about 10 hours, Stanford cut 11 of its 36 varsity sports programs, like hockey, wrestling and men’s volleyball – which is a shame in its own. Then Ohio State also announced the Buckeyes would be pausing workouts in seven sports, including football, after receiving less-than-desirable results from their COVID-19 tests. North Carolina followed up with similar news when the program learned of their results.
Here’s to hoping the college football season goes on.

NEWS ACROSS THE LONGHORN REPUBLIC AND BEYOND
- CBS Sports recently ranked the top 10 head coaches who are currently sitting atop football’s hot seat. Tom Herman was included among them. From CBS Sports: “f speculation were tires, tread would be worn bald asking if Texas is “back.” The answer, once again, is no. After beating Oklahoma and winning the Sugar Bowl in 2018, the Longhorns slid to 8-5 in 2019 behind Baylor and OU in the Big 12. With the Sooners showing no signs of slowing down, this is a key season for Herman. He has a quarterback who has made Heisman Trophy lists in Sam Ehlinger. Recruiting continues to thrive. That’s the issue: When is all that talent going to carry the Horns to national title contention?”

- Speaking of rankings, Herman and Sam Ehlinger were recently ranked among the nation’s top three head coach-quarterback duos in college football, thanks to ESPN. From ESPN: “After Vince Young and Colt McCoy made Texas a QB haven in the previous decade, the Longhorns’ offense disappeared from 2010 through 2017 as the team cycled through both coaches and quarterbacks. But the marriage between Herman and Ehlinger has revived the fireworks in Austin, and their offensive success over the past two years — 80 total TDs, 8,100 yards — is on par with anything Young or McCoy produced in their heyday.”
