Hopes of the Texas Longhorns making deep inroads into the Midwest in recruiting face a key hurdle — the Ohio State Buckeyes. Head coach Ryan Day’s program flexed its recruiting muscles again on Tuesday when 2022 Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley North athlete Dasan McCullough committed to the Buckeyes.

The 6’5, 220-pounder held more than 40 offers from the top programs nationally and did give the Longhorns some consideration. When McCullough released his list of top 10 schools in June, Texas made the cut.
It wasn’t enough, however, as Ohio State added another piece to a 2022 recruiting class that already features five other top-150 prospects.
For Texas, it’s a disappointment and a reminder that head coach Tom Herman’s program still doesn’t have enough cachet to consistently win national recruitments for out-of-state prospects like McCullough, but it’s not especially surprising.
A consensus four-star prospect, McCullough is ranked as the No. 70 player nationally and the No. 7 athlete, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
