Texas redshirt freshman OL Isaiah Hookfin sustains shoulder injury in practice

Hookfin is expected to return in time for the season opener versus UTEP

Texas redshirt freshman Isaiah Hookfin suffered a shoulder injury in practice on Tuesday that is expected to be sideline him for the next two to three weeks, first reported by Anwar Richardson and later confirmed by Texas.

The school confirmed the news on Wednesday evening.

Hookfin had been getting reps with the first-team at right guard earlier in fall camp and is in the midst of a battle between fifth-year senior Denzel Okafor and sophomore Christian Jones for the starting spot. Hookfin has also been getting reps at left guard behind Junior Angilau, per Chip Brown.

Texas does expect to have Hookfin back in time for the season opener against UTEP on Sept. 12 but if he’s not ready to play by then, the Longhorns will have a week off before opening conference play against Texas Tech.
