4-star RB LJ Johnson reveals top 4 schools

Can the Longhorns close on another elite running back?

247Sports

Four-star Cy-Fair running back LJ Johnson announced on Tuesday evening that he has narrowed his list of schools down to four finalists.

Johnson is the No.4 running back nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings and is ranked 42nd overall.

The Longhorns unsurprisingly made the cut for Johnson’s services and from looking at his list, it looks like he won’t be going too far from home for his collegiate career. LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M are the other finalists.

Texas and running backs coach Stan Drayton have reportedly been surging in this recruitment in recent weeks, and with consensus five-star running back Camar Wheaton eliminating the Horns recently that is an important element to this story line.

Texas already has one back in the class in Hallettsville’s Jonathon Brooks and they are looking to complement him with a back of Johnson’s caliber. In order for that to happen, the Texas staff will have to fight off some formidable competition from around the region with the Aggies likely being the biggest threat as things sit now.

In May, the perception was that Texas A&M held the edge, but the three most recent 247Sports Crystal Ball picks in September were all for Texas.
