Texas releases Texas Tech depth chart

The second depth chart of the season features two injury-related changes.

Following a bye week, the Texas Longhorns released the depth chart for Saturday’s Big 12 opener against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock.

As usual, the depth chart remains largely static once the season begins and doesn’t necessarily reflect who will take the field with the first team against Texas Tech — sophomore running back Roschon Johnson took the first snap in the season opener even though he was listed on the depth chart as the backup to junior Keaontay Ingram.

The depth chart features a few notable changes, including the addition of freshman JaQuinden Jackson as the fourth-string quarterback.

In the slot, where the availability of sophomore Jake Smith is in question this week due to a hamstring injury and redshirt freshman Jordan Whittington is out for several more weeks after knee surgery, walk-on Kai Money is listed as the co-backup with graduate transfer Brenden Schooler.

At 6’2 and 196 pounds, Schooler isn’t a prototypical slot receiver, but head coach Tom Herman has had success with taller players at that position after Lil’Jordan Humphrey led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in 2018. Texas simply needs someone it can move into the H position until health improves there.

Along the offensive line, redshirt freshman Isaiah Hookfin is now listed as the backup to redshirt sophomore Christian Jones at right tackle. With Hookfin recovering from a shoulder injury prior to the season opener, redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson was listed as the second-team player at right tackle.
