Texas Longhorns senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger will go down as a legend in the university’s history books, just as his good buddy Colt McCoy did during his time at Texas.

The two are also close friends, according to a report in 247Sports.

“Obviously, there’s not many people who are better to lean on and ask advice because he’s an incredible football player as well as a great man,” Ehlinger told 247Sports. “[McCoy is a] family man and I really love the way that he carries himself and represents his family.”

NEWS ACROSS THE LONGHORN REPUBLIC AND BEYOND

  • Texas head coach Tom Herman is feeling confident about the Longhorns going into their Big 12 opener against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. “I think there’s a quiet confidence,” Herman told 247Sports earlier this week. “I think our guys know what they’re capable of. I think the game against UTEP was what it was. We did what we were ‘supposed to do.’ I don’t know that anybody is really gleaming a whole lot other than we did what we were supposed to do in that game. But I do think that just from the veterans being around here, seeing the makeup of different teams, as well as just the overall sense of what this team is capable of, I do think that there’s a lot of confidence in that locker room.”
  • Texas men’s basketball head coach Shaka Smart promoted Cody Hatt to assistant coach, 247Sports reports.
