With Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman out, and Steve Sarkisian in, there’s not much reason to think defensive coordinator Chris Ash plans, or will be asked, to stick around for 2021. According to 247Sports, Chris Ash is in talks with the Florida Gators, where he could potentially join head coach Dan Mullen in the same, or similar, position.
From 247Sports: “Ash will be considered a prime candidate for Florida’s staff. So far, Ash coached just one season at Texas as the defensive coordinator when he was under former coach Tom Herman. Ash’s defense finished 64th in the nation in total defense and 61st in scoring defense as the 7-3 Longhorns yielded 28.5 points per game.”

NEWS ACROSS THE LONGHORN REPUBLIC AND BEYOND
- Although the NCAA has yet to move forward with its change of rules on the use of name, image and likeness for athletes, NCAA President Mark Emmert says the changes are still set to take place, according to USA Today. “All of our college athletes are profoundly disappointed and, I suspect, even angry,” Emmert said, per USA Today. “But we need to make clear we’re still committed. We’re still determined to move forward with name, image and likeness modernizations, and certainly with changing Division I transfer rules. We promised this to our students. We’re going to get it done.”
